Administration

Dr. Alex Tomes earned his B.S. degree from Northwest Missouri State University, his M.S. degree from Minnesota State University, his Ph.D. from Arizona State University, and his Ed.S. degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

Dr. Tomes began his career with the St. Joseph School District as a biology teacher at Central High School in 2018. After teaching science at Central and participating in the SJSD leadership program, he served as vice principal at Benton High School before becoming principal at Robidoux Middle School. He will serve as principal at Spring Garden Middle School beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

Prior to joining SJSD, Dr. Tomes served as director of K-12 education outreach at Arizona State University and taught K-12 education courses to graduate students.

Dr. Tomes enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Magnus and Murphy. In his free time, he enjoys cooking outdoors, taking cruises in his Volkswagen bus, and restoring their 100-year-old home.
